Wings for Life World Run 2021
International Project Management
A record-breaking number of over 184.000 participants from 195 different countries unified. All starting a race together simultaneously, to raise money and awareness for a good cause. This could only mean one thing:
It was time for the Wings for Life World Run 2021. On the 9th of May 2021, the 8th edition of the Wings for Life World Run took place. This was a year of setting new records and experiencing an exclusively digital environment. The run more than doubled the number of participants who were enlisted in 2020 and all of them took part digitally.
Every participant was, once again, given the opportunity to run with the Wings for Life World Run App wherever they desired.
In the app, all the necessary information regarding distance, global race information, and, most importantly, the virtual catcher car was provided. During the race, this information was also given in 14 different languages by a unique audio program: the Audio Experience (AX).
The AX allowed the individual app to run as informatively, personally and entertainingly as possible and to make the participants feel united despite the fact they were running alone with their mobile phones.
We greatly supported the Wings for Life World Run with the organization and management of the AX. Therefore, we took care to align the AX within the global Wings for Life World Run team which covered tasks like the creative process with the full team, supplier selection, internal team coordination as well as the coordination of the production for 14 different countries around the world. Furthermore, we also handled the audio file management, file storage, and coordination with the app development team. All sound files from all countries had to be edited, filed, named, and correctly stored. Our partner in crime for all the sound engineering and post production was the audio studio Treller OG. A big THANK YOU to Philipp and Philipp for their great work.
Alongside the Wings for Life World Run project, we also took care of a second new project. After the run in 2020, we decided together with the project leader Alex Höller from hilltop entertainment to focus on a new participant service setup for 2021. The goal of this setup was to centralize all requests from participants regardless of channel and to solve them as effectively as possible. Therefore, we took care of the strategic planning and execution of the new participant service setup to ensure the satisfaction of our participants all over the world. For this, it was mandatory to also bring 12 countries on board for the full year support and during race week we had an additional 20 people in our global team to handle all requests in the days building up to, as well as after the race.
Besides these two new exciting challenges within the Wings for Life World Run team, we of course were also, once again, delighted to support Red Bull Austria on the digital side the full year around.
As is clear, we are big fans of the Wings for Life World Run and feel privileged to be part of such a team, to push boundaries together, and in the end to run for those who can’t. Also a big THANK YOU to the whole Wings for Life World Run team. It is always a pleasure to work with such motivated and encouraging people.
We are already excited for the next edition, and in case you haven’t signed up yet, head over to the registration, we hope to see you at the starting line on May 8th 2022.
