Video Editing with InShot

Creativity is Key

by Leon Schaufler

You think you have what it takes to be a Video Editor? Yes, you do! Just get a smartphone and you’re done with it. There’s a reason why people get so popular that quickly on TikTok, Reels or Social Media in general. These platforms or features are key examples for not always needing a professional Video Editor to create viral and gripping short video content. Okay, so before we get down to business, you’ll need some prior knowledge about video editing in general – luckily we got exactly what you need on our blog. Here’s a neat little article for you to start off. 😋

Just do it yourself.

All caught up? Nice. I consider you a pro video editor now. 😎

So, what we’re looking for ist for you to not always have to bother the Video Editors who always have a lot on their plate, right? Why not just do it yourself? Just get InShot and get to work. I promise, after a few test flights you’ll be ready to edit stories, quick social media videos, cut and edit pre-made videos by Editors that need that small change and also add text-on-screen to whatever material you have got. It’s easier than ever to do it yourself, even if you’re not at all familiar with editing software.

What can I do?

You downloaded InShot and now what? I’ll give you a quick overview of what InShot can do.

You can cut videos, add text to them, add your own fonts to personalize, add text animations, add music, import your own music or use the royalty free in-app music, add freeze frames, add slow-mo or timelapse, use chroma key, add stickers and GIPHY supported gifs, add filters, change the size and aspect ratio of the video in one tap, flip, split, rotate, crop your videos and add picture-in-picture videos or photos to your content. Oh and you’ve got keyframes. You’re gonna love them. 🤩 Maybe I am a little biased because I do everything with them. Video Editors also work with keyframes and at first they’re a little bit complicated but 👏 you👏 will👏 love👏 them👏 !

I’ll admit, the last paragraph was a bit much, but don’t worry, I’ll get to the point. Also, I won’t show you the whole app now, that would take me forever and you certainly don’t have time for that now. I’ll keep it under 5 mins reading time – promise.

The thing is, working with InShot opens up so many possibilities and I don’t always have to set up meetings and write briefings for video editors to cut a short social media video because I just do it myself. That’s SO time-efficient and also saves a lot of nerves in the content department sometimes.

Learning by doing

Don’t expect this blog article to teach you anything hands-on, because – like I said – you will have to do it yourself. Nothing in life just comes without any price. For InShot you will have to pay in time. And we know time is money and precious and whatnot but just take it. Which is why I definitely recommend downloading the app and going through ALL the features one by one. Get to the very bottom of the app, you would do the same with a new car or a new piece of technology, right? If you don’t know what a particular feature does, just try it in as many ways as possible. You can’t just download the app and work with it immediately. You should probably plan in a few hours for this. Maybe even clear your schedule. Just tell them I told you to do that. 🤜🤛 Tell your supervisor you need the rest of the day to educate yourself. Because that’s what makes a good social media and content manager: education and experience. 🤯 Who would’ve thought.

Does it work?

Yes. YES. I can’t stress this enough. I am not an advocate for the InShot company, I don’t even know their name, I am just a huge fan. I have worked with several clients and I have always gotten such positive feedback on my work. I added some examples below this article for you to look at to get a feeling of what’s possible. But that’s, like, 10% of what’s possible, there’s so much potential for more. I have been working with InShot for almost two years now and it has got me far. And I’m not even the most creative in the office, let alone my circle of friends.

Which gets me to my final point: Creativity. You’ll need it. Creating short stories and short videos with InShot can do everyone. But let’s talk about the REALLY good stuff: The content that is mistaken for professional videos that some Editor made – not the Social Media Manager on his iPhone. And for that you will need creativity and affinity for the app. And you won’t get that by reading this article. Go download the app and try everything out. Go educate yourself.
